The Great Christmas Light Fight: Cranbury, Minnetrista, Toronto & Glen Allen

Season 4 Episode 4 aired n Friday, December 12th, 2016 on the ABC television channel. Hosted by the very lovely Taniya Nayak and hunk Carter Oosterhouse, this episode was the least-viewed of season four with only 4.64 million viewers.

Viewers were mesmerized by the Shaw family’s display in Cranbury, NJ with its extravagant Christmas tree boasting more lights than the Rockefeller Center’s tree; the Kasper-Cook family in Minnetrista, MN who constructed their home into a light show after being inspired by season one of “The Great Christmas Light Fight”; the De Sarios in Toronto, Canada whose dedication and passion raised nearly $150,000 for Sick Kids hospital; and finally, the husband-wife duo Thompson family from Glen Allen, VA whose holiday display was completely handmade. Ultimately it was judge Taniya Nayak who awarded $50,000 and the coveted Light Fight trophy to one of these inspiring families.

The Great Christmas Light Fight Displays

The Shaw Christmas Lights in Cranbury, New Jersey

In 2009, the Shaw family began their Christmas display with 10,000 lights and it has since grown to an incredible 130,000 lights, synchronized to music! From November 29th through December, visitors can come to 128 North Main Street in Cranbury to be dazzled by the light show every night from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, save for a few dates when the lights will be off. But even those nights are illuminated – just without music. The experience is free but those who can should bring donations for the local food bank, as all proceeds will go toward supporting those in need. When considering their contribution, attendees are encouraged to think of this as an outing at the movies with their families. For parking instructions, note that cars can’t be parked directly in front of the house; instead, park nearby and take a short stroll to witness the display.

Nestled in the heart of Central New Jersey, Cranbury is a picturesque town with over 4,000 inhabitants and countless historic buildings, including the iconic 1780 Cranbury Inn. For over a decade, the Kasper and Cook families have delighted friends and family with their annual holiday lights display in Minnetrista, Minnesota. Boasting more than 100,000 twinkling bulbs, festive music, and intricate animated displays arranged in unique shapes and patterns, the Kasper-Cook Christmas Lights creates an unforgettable experience for all ages. Taniya Nayak of the Great Christmas Light Fight

Taniya Nayak is a renowned interior designer and television personality, who has made an indelible mark on the home renovation industry. Born in Nagpur, India on February 27, 1973 and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, her love of design blossomed as she assisted her father during his construction business’ summer breaks. She then went further to pursue a degree in Interior Design from the Boston Architectural College.

After graduation, Taniya founded her own interior design firm – Taniya Nayak Design LLC – with her amazing work quickly gaining prominence. Her portfolio includes designing restaurants, boutique hotels and residential spaces for noted brands such as Dunkin’ Donuts, MTV and the NFL.

Taniya’s big break arrived when she was featured as a designer on HGTV’s “Designed to Sell”. This opened doors for more television opportunities where she subsequently hosted shows like HGTV’s “House Hunters on Vacation”, ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” and Food Network’s “Restaurant Impossible”.

Apart from her silver screen accomplishments, Taniya is also an established author with multiple books including “The Design Cookbook: Recipes for a Stylish Home” and “Good Bones: Great Pieces”. She is also involved in several philanthropic activities such as Dress for Success and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Carter Osterhouse of the Great Christmas Light Fight

Carter Oosterhouse is a well-known television personality and home improvement expert. He was born on September 19, 1976, in Traverse City, Michigan. Carter grew up in a family of carpenters, which gave him an early introduction to the world of construction and design.

After graduating from high school, Carter went on to attend Central Michigan University where he studied nutrition and communication. However, he soon realized that his true passion lay in carpentry and construction. After college, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of working in the entertainment industry.

Carter’s big break came when he landed a job as a carpenter on the hit TLC show Trading Spaces. His charismatic personality and talent for design quickly made him a fan favorite. This led to numerous other television appearances including hosting roles on HGTV’s Carter Can, Red Hot & Green, Million Dollar Rooms and The Great Christmas Light Fight.

Aside from his work on television, Carter is also a successful entrepreneur with several business ventures under his belt. He co-founded the company “Carter Oosterhouse Construction” which specializes in green building practices and sustainable design. Additionally, he has authored several books about home renovation including “Carter’s Way: A No-Nonsense Method for Designing Your Own Super Stylish Home”.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Carter is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He is involved with several charities including Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity. He also runs the Carter Oosterhouse Family Foundation which focuses on supporting education initiatives.
