The Great Christmas Light Fight Displays

The Micklos Christmas Lights in North Ridgeville, Ohio

Every Christmas, Bill Micklos and his family transform their home into a dazzling winter wonderland. The North Ridgeville resident’s Christmas light display is inspired by the Griswold family Christmas from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” This year, they have put up 47,000 Christmas lights that take 300 hours of set-up time over the course of four weeks.

The Christmas light display has been a family tradition for three generations, starting with Bill’s grandfather in the 1950s. It is something that Micklos hopes his two sons will carry on when they grow up. To make the display more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, they recently switched from traditional Christmas bulbs to LED lights. This has helped reduce their electric bill from about $800 for six weeks of light display, to $350 for 50,000 Christmas lights.

The center point of the Christmas display is a projector that broadcasts a 70-minute movie of the Grinch stealing Christmas presents. On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus takes the Grinch’s place, giving the illusion of a living Christmas movie on the house.

The Micklos family Christmas light display is something that brings joy to many people every year. While it takes a lot of work and dedication to put up 47,000 Christmas lights, they truly make Christmas special for everyone who sees them.
