The Great Christmas Light Fight: Thames, Mortensen, Fuller and Hammel Lights

The Great Christmas Light Fight lit up TV screens with its second season of incredible light displays. Episode 5 was no exception and had viewers tuning in from all over the country – a total of 5.88 million people! The episode featured four awe-inspiring Christmas light shows that showcased the talents and hard work of their creators.

Great Christmas Light Fight

The Great Christmas Light Fight series is traditionally scheduled in a double-run of two hour-long episodes, all airing Mondays in the first three weeks of December annually as part of ABC’s seasonal programming lineup.  Each episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight features a series of families or groups that create elaborate Christmas light displays. The contestants are chosen in advance by producers. The displays are judged on three categories: use of lights, overall design, and Christmas spirit. Each display is first individually featured, then the judge or judges review the display and its specific details. Once all contestants have been reviewed, a winner is chosen, and the judges return to the winner to congratulate them. The winner of each week’s episode wins $50,000 and a holiday-themed trophy that is curiously similar to one created by TackyLightTour.com that was seen on TLC’s Crazy Christmas Lights show in 2006.

The Roberts Family from Centreville, Virginia took the traditional Christmas nativity scene one step further by adding laser beams to the display. Christmas Lane in Dover, Florida was home to the Wetherington family’s amazing Christmas midway complete with a skating rink and a “teddy-go-round”. Finally, we were treated to the Setti family’s Christmas village from Norwalk, Connecticut that had been delighting viewers for 26 years. Sadly, this was the last year of their Christmas display as they decided to retire it for good.
