A transformer is an electrical device used to convert the voltage of a power source from one level to another. In lighting, transformers are commonly found in low-voltage systems such as those used in outdoor landscape lighting and may be powered by either AC or DC electricity. Transformer controls work by utilizing a primary winding coil and a secondary winding coil, making them an incredibly efficient way of manipulating electrical signals. This is because the input energy to the primary coil is also sent out onto the secondary coil but at different voltages, enabling for a degree of flexibility when it comes to picking applicable fixtures.
