Chad Richins, a bank analyst and accomplished programmer, has been putting up elaborate Christmas light displays in Gilbert, Arizona for 10 years. His home in Gilbert is outfitted with nearly 100,000 lights that are synchronized to play seasonal holiday songs. To get the show ready to go each year requires programming 30,000 channels – commands that tell which lights should turn on and when – to create the desired effects. Richins estimates that programming a single song takes about 100 hours, and his show currently has 13 songs.
Richins has been offered chances to be featured on a televised special but he declined because he wanted to add more elements and wasn’t sure if he would be able to finish in time for the show’s filming. Since then, he has worked diligently on his light display and says it is now more spectacular than ever before. Richins’ dedication to Christmas lights programming and creativity have earned him a loyal fan base who come each year to see his amazing show of lights. He loves that people of all ages enjoy his light show, and is always looking for ways to make it even better than the year before. His commitment to his craft has made an incredible Christmas experience that will be remembered in Gilbert for years to come.
