Light Trespass

Light trespass is the movement of light from a light source onto a property or area which it was not intended to reach. It can be caused by point sources such as street lamps or floodlights, or from diffuse sources such as illuminated signs or bright interiors. Light trespass often results in glare, discomfort, and disruption of activities on the receiving property. To avoid light trespass, it is important to consider the location and orientation of lighting fixtures when planning an exterior lighting design.
