Lightning Ignites Christmas Lights that Ingites Georgia Community

In Fayette County, Georgia, here’s an uplifting update on the lightning-induced fire that ravaged parts of the beloved 35-year-old Christmas tradition at Gaddy Farm that was featured on ABC’s Christmas Light Fight. The Gaddy’s have been overwhelmed by an outpouring of goodwill in the form of donations of electrical materials. Yet, the question lingers: will these contributions suffice to enable the event this year?

Gaddy Family in Fayetteville Georgia

Mike Gaddy is engrossed in the task of wiring necessary for this year’s illuminating spectacle on the family’s farm. Their efforts began early due to the setback caused by the devastating fire.

Mike Gaddy expressed his determination, saying, “I’m fully committed to this endeavor, and while it’s going to demand a lot of hard work, I believe we’ll manage to achieve it by Thanksgiving.”

In a recent development, a lightning strike ignited a fire in the Gaddy’s barn. The blaze consumed extensive lengths of electrical wiring that powered their captivating drive-through display, along with certain decorations.

Since then, numerous individuals representing generations of families who cherished this holiday tradition have extended their support. Their responses have ranged from donations to offers of assistance in the rebuilding process, accompanied by heartfelt messages of affection and solidarity.

Enthusiastic devotees of the Christmas lights show have donated thousands of feet of electrical wire. The influx of donations has been remarkable, making it difficult to ascertain the precise quantity of wire still required to illuminate the farm for their Thanksgiving-to-New-Year’s-Day drive-thru light exhibition.

The Gaddy family, Mike and Gwen, are profoundly appreciative of the affection and backing they’ve received in the aftermath of the fire that razed the wiring and some of the decorations, elements that had enriched their holiday custom for more than three decades.

Gwen Gaddy shared her sentiments, “The overwhelming display of love and empathy for what we’ve lost, as well as the recognition of our annual efforts, has truly caught us off guard. The extent of this sentiment is beyond what either of us had imagined.”

Now in its 35th year, the Gaddy’s luminous presentation remains free for all to enjoy. They are preparing to welcome visitors on Thanksgiving night.

There is also a wishlist compiled by friends and supporters of the Gaddy family, which can be found on their Facebook page, “Gaddy Family Christmas Extravaganza.”
